Safe.....?
so, lately lots has been happening in the world that we could consider it as an unsafe place to be. there was the stabbing of a university student in Bundoora, shootings in America, and i guess anyone could name many many more so that we all would be shaking in our boots. any of these types of stories are enough to make us feel scared, afraid, alone and rather unsafe...
are we safe in this world?
well i thought about it and then i looked at the life that Jesus lived and how he lived.
for example, in the middle of storm Jesus is taking a nap while his disciples are rather unnerved. Jesus did get 'troubled'. he didn't go through his life without experiencing difficulties, but he always knew he was safe. the whole of Jesus' life people were trying to kill him. fancy living your life with people trying to trick you and kill you everyday. but Jesus knew that God was with him and continued on his mission.
then other events in the bible such as the fiery furnace. at a time when Shadrach, Meshack and Abendigo could have been destroyed they were protected and perfectly safe.
when Daniel was thrown into the Lions den, he was perfectly safe and he could have been devoured.
the Israelites were being chased by the Egyptians and had the terrible prospect of being taken as slaves or killed and they were protected by God as he made a way for them.
so many examples in the bible of the possibilities of dire consequences that turn out to show how God is protecting us and keeping us safe.
the world is a safe place to be.
'Even though i walk through the valley of the shadow of death i will fear no evil for you are with me' psalm 23:4
'whoever trusts in the Lord is safe' proverbs 29:25
' you dear children, are from God and have overcome them, because the one who is in you in greater than the one who is in the world' 1 john 4:4

This is a really interesting topic. Some say "the safest place to be is in the will of God", yet I think it's the barbarian guy who says to live a Christian life is to be anything BUT safe (think matyrs)!
I always think of the line about, man can kill your body, but God is in charge of your soul (terribly paraphrased, I know).

thanks steff.
do you agree that the safest place to live is in the will of God?
(i thought it was the barbarian guy who said that the safest place to live is in the will of God)

The barbarian guy made the point that living in the center of the will of god is not safe.
but think about it...Jesus thought the world was a safe place. He wasn't looking over his shoulder even 10 minutes because someone was about to attack him, he didn't lock himself behind doors or have people protect him, he trusted people.

I think Steff made a good point - in this world all sorts of stuff may happen to our body, but our soul (obviously the more important part) will always be safe in God's hands.
"He's not safe... but He's good".

is living in the will of God a safe place? like i'm confused or something...
it is like safe. God provides, God watches over us, God makes a way were there is no way. doing the things of God is not always the easiest option, it is difficult, it can get you thrown into a fiery furnace, or a lions den (though the likelihood of that in Australia is not the highest), but they were safe and stuff turned out ok.
it depeneds how we view such things. what is safe?

The name of the LORD is a strong tower; the righteous run to it and are safe.

...but their not safe from torture or physical death in some cases. So what does God mean when the Bible suggests safety?
By Trav, at 5:16 AM
Safe knowing nothing can happen to you that God has not allowed and therefore He is in control.

but God often lets bad stuff happen...

Yes He does. I'm sure Job would agree. But He has a purpose. He doesn't act capriciously (a sudden, impulsive, and seemingly unmotivated notion or action).
By Susan Barnes, at 10:33 PM
So if we can trust God that he is telling the truth when he says that he will fulfil his purpose in me (psalm 32:8)
Then we can also know we are safe from anyone stopping God's will happening in us.

Job was kinda safe but his children weren't...
